Semi-Professional Muse for Hire: Reasonable Rates
Date night
Day 106 of 365. Not much going on today, and not much time for photography; so here's a cute candid snapshot.

the owls are not what they seem.
Day 105 of 365.
I walked/hiked through the Saint Albans City Park today with a friend, and we saw this owl around 3 p.m. Maybe he's an insomniac? I wish I had a better zoom feature, but I couldn't resist trying, anyway. I took a better photo today, but I have certain weaknesses that I will never be able to resist - photos aligning with quotes from Twin Peaks, and, uh, probably a bunch of other things.

rained out
Day 101 of 365.
I'm sure there was more to see in other parts of the world, today, but I was mostly holed up working on a paper all day. All I could manage was 15 minutes of photos outdoors before the thunderstorms rolled in.

Day 100!
Day 100 of 365.
I'm proud of myself for getting this far. The first 100 days down; only 2.65 repetitions of that to go.
Slugs. Disgusting, but also fascinating. I kind of love them.

Day 98 of 365.
Nearly 100 days! It's hard to believe that I've made it this far. I don't know what kind of flower this is, but it's very striking.

Day 97
Day 97 of 365.
Some unpleasant news today derailed the afternoon. But I still was able to shoot in the front yard, even for a few minutes.
Today's a good day, though: Happy five-year Date-a-Versary to Dr. Nick and Myself, and a happy two-year Legal-Versary!
We went downtown for dinner & a movie.

Day 96
Day 96 of 365.
I apologize for the scarcity of words here; I'm pretty deep into the crunch-time of the last few weeks of school work, and I'm mostly saving my words for that, and for Nick. But I just registered for the Fall semester this morning, so I guess I'll keep going. Onward. One semester at a time.

Day 94
Day 94 of 365.
It was a cooler, lovely day today. Mostly, I had to stay indoors and do a redundant, boring assignment. All there was time for was to step outside onto the steps and look up.

Thurmond
Day 93 of 365.
We went out to the New River area today to have lunch and hang out with our friend Ben. This included going to an honest-to-goodness independent record store for National Independent Record Store Day, and driving out to
Thurmond to check out the old town. The photo above is a detail of the delapidated buildings in Thurmond.
Dr. Nick and I think spring is the most beautiful time in WV. If New England is all about Autumn, WV is all about spring.

April evenings
Day 90 of 365.
A funny thing happened on our way to walk the dog ... as we rounded the curve past Lola's, one of our favorite servers flagged us down and offered the dog a bowl of water. Then, of course, we were sitting on the porch ... at Lola's ... on the mostly lovely evening thus far. Well, there was nothing else to do but one of us take the dog home and one of us hold down a table on the porch. I won't tell you who did what, but we had a delightful meal.

the happiest dog in the world
Day 87 of 365.
We decided to go out to the Kanawha State Forest for our walk with the dog today - it was very warm, and the dog doesn't sweat, you know, so he got super-excited to jump into Davis Creek and splash around. It was one of the happiest things I've ever seen. How he made us laugh!
I'd like to also note that for the first time in my life, I successfully photographed a butterfly:

Day 84 of 365.
I couldn't resist another opportunity to use my "tentacles" tag again!
Anyway, I had to drive to Flatwoods, WV today- about an hour from Charleston up I-79 - to attend the
West Virginia Library Association 's "Spring Fling" conference. It was a beautiful drive both ways, although very different - on the way up all was balmy and green, and floral petals blew through the air like warm snow. On the way back, the rain had moved in, highlighting how intensely green everything is in a different way than the sun does, and the purple blooms of trees along the hillsides. Driving up I-79 anytime between April and July makes me think I'm in Tolkien's Shire - a green and idyllic place. I did get a few pictures, but nothing I'm too happy with. Oh, and the conference was good too - I attended a presentation about the same kind of digitization project I'm currently working on, and one about e-books. Listening and understanding these presentations boosted my confidence in this projected career path.
Also, Flatwoods has an outlet mall - which has an Amish Market bulk goods store. We had one in Charleston, but I guess it wasn't doing well enough to stay open. I used to get all my bulk grains and spices there, so I had to stock up in Flatwoods while I was there.
Here's another picture from today, before the rain:
This one reminded me of cabaret makeup, of eyelashes emphasized by globs of mascara at the tips. Yes, I'm shooting a lot of macro shots of flowers these days. It's fun! You might too if they were in your face all the time. The flowers, I mean.

Day 82 of 365. 22 days ago I posted a picture of this same bench, nearly underwater during the flooding of the Kanawha River. Looks idyllic now, no?

Day 81 of 365. I saw many beds of tulips around the Capitol today. It was a beautiful day, and now I hear rumors of thunderstorms.

Day 77
Day 77 of 365.
I appear to be in a bit of a floral phase - but what can I say? Have macro lens, will travel. Right now, with nature busting out all the flora in WV, the color & detail of flowers & leaves are what draw my eye.
