Semi-Professional Muse for Hire: Reasonable Rates
there she goes, my beautiful world

This is from my first shoot with the new DSLR camera. I'm so in love, and we've only just met. We have such a long way to travel together, and so much to learn.

April evenings

Day 90 of 365.
A funny thing happened on our way to walk the dog ... as we rounded the curve past Lola's, one of our favorite servers flagged us down and offered the dog a bowl of water. Then, of course, we were sitting on the porch ... at Lola's ... on the mostly lovely evening thus far. Well, there was nothing else to do but one of us take the dog home and one of us hold down a table on the porch. I won't tell you who did what, but we had a delightful meal.

the happiest dog in the world

Day 87 of 365.
We decided to go out to the Kanawha State Forest for our walk with the dog today - it was very warm, and the dog doesn't sweat, you know, so he got super-excited to jump into Davis Creek and splash around. It was one of the happiest things I've ever seen. How he made us laugh!
I'd like to also note that for the first time in my life, I successfully photographed a butterfly:

Day 84 of 365.
I couldn't resist another opportunity to use my "tentacles" tag again!
Anyway, I had to drive to Flatwoods, WV today- about an hour from Charleston up I-79 - to attend the
West Virginia Library Association 's "Spring Fling" conference. It was a beautiful drive both ways, although very different - on the way up all was balmy and green, and floral petals blew through the air like warm snow. On the way back, the rain had moved in, highlighting how intensely green everything is in a different way than the sun does, and the purple blooms of trees along the hillsides. Driving up I-79 anytime between April and July makes me think I'm in Tolkien's Shire - a green and idyllic place. I did get a few pictures, but nothing I'm too happy with. Oh, and the conference was good too - I attended a presentation about the same kind of digitization project I'm currently working on, and one about e-books. Listening and understanding these presentations boosted my confidence in this projected career path.
Also, Flatwoods has an outlet mall - which has an Amish Market bulk goods store. We had one in Charleston, but I guess it wasn't doing well enough to stay open. I used to get all my bulk grains and spices there, so I had to stock up in Flatwoods while I was there.
Here's another picture from today, before the rain:

This one reminded me of cabaret makeup, of eyelashes emphasized by globs of mascara at the tips. Yes, I'm shooting a lot of macro shots of flowers these days. It's fun! You might too if they were in your face all the time. The flowers, I mean.

Magic Island

Day 82 of 365. 22 days ago I posted a picture of this same bench, nearly underwater during the flooding of the Kanawha River. Looks idyllic now, no?

Day 81 of 365. I saw many beds of tulips around the Capitol today. It was a beautiful day, and now I hear rumors of thunderstorms.
I was saddened by news of
another mine explosion in WV .

Day 78 of 365. Denizens of faerie have been sailing in our birdbath.
And
ladybugs are going about their business in the trees .
It was about 90 degrees today! Too warm for my blood.

Day 77

Day 77 of 365.
I appear to be in a bit of a floral phase - but what can I say? Have macro lens, will travel. Right now, with nature busting out all the flora in WV, the color & detail of flowers & leaves are what draw my eye.

Day 75 of 365.
A strange and beautiful day - beautiful, because of the weather and spring busting out all over the place - strange, because the dog was behaving oddly since last night, and a combo of circumstances caused us to take him to the Emergency Vet tonight. Good thing we did, too - last August he had pancreatitis; this spring he has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. It appears that our big bouncy dog that looks so solid is a bit of a delicate flower when it comes to his gastrointestinal system. He has to stay overnight and be treated; hopefully he'll be better tomorrow. At least tonight we won't be awakened six times to let him out; but we do have to get up early tomorrow to bring him home.

Day 73
Day 73 of 365.
It was raining most of the day, so I stayed inside with my books and the basketball games. Read a great Y/A book, "The Forest of Hands and Teeth" by Carrie Ryan. It was a great twist on how to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Go under the ivy

Day 70 of 365.
Spring rains are here. The ivy will soon be out of control if we don't clip it back. I had another picture in mind for today, hopefully I'll be able to show it to you soon.
In other news, I got a good haircut today, and that is an immense relief.

Come into my parlor

Day 69 of 365.
The bright afternoon light made all the colors so strong today, it was lovely. I decided to try something different - black and white in the middle of the color. I still don't know what they are, these plants that make these twisty shoots that coil and cling to other plants and bushes, but they are all over my yard.
